The Duke of Sussex arrived at Heathrow Airport yesterday ahead of the funeral of his grandfather Prince Philip, who died aged 99 on Friday. Harry will come face to face with his family for the first time since he and Meghan Markle’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey. It is bound to be awkward between Harry and the other royals after he and Meghan made some astonishing claims in the two-hour special.
These claims included that the Duchess was not supported by the institution when she was struggling with her mental health and that one member of the family raised “concerns” about their son’s potential skin colour.
Harry also opened up about his relationship with his brother, which he said was “space” and that they were “on different paths”.
According to CBS star Gayle King, William and Harry have spoken on the phone since the interview, but it was “unproductive”.
The brothers’ relationship had been strained ever since William warned Harry to take things slow in the early days of his relationship with Meghan.
Harry took offence at the use of the phrase “this girl” and felt that his brother was being “snobby”, according to the 2020 book ‘Finding Freedom’.
While some friends felt Harry was being overly sensitive, it is possible he did not want his brother to interfere with his relationship after what happened with Chelsy.
Before marrying Meghan, Prince Harry had two serious girlfriends, the first of whom was Zimbabwean-born Chelsy, who he dated on and off for seven years.
They finally split in 2010, but the final nail in the coffin for Chelsy was reportedly attending William and Kate’s wedding.
In her book ‘Harry: Conversations with the Prince’, Angela Levin claimed a friend recalled that the “enormity and pomp” of the day is what convinced Chelsy that they should not get back together.
Ms Levin wrote: “A friend revealed that seeing the enormity and pomp of the day convinced Chelsy that she and Harry had been right to separate.
“Although they had a lot in common, she saw clearly that because they came from such different worlds, it could never have worked, especially as she valued her privacy and guarded it so carefully.”
William and Kate will be celebrating their 10-year wedding anniversary this month, meaning Chelsy and Harry broke up over a decade ago.

However, Chelsy did save Kate some embarrassment at the time of the nuptials, as she warned Harry to tone down a joke he had about her in his best man speech.
Katie Nicholl wrote in her biography ‘Harry: Life; Loss and Love’ that Harry had planned to talk about Kate’s “killer legs”, but Chelsy advised him against it.
Ms Nicholl also backed up the idea that the 2011 wedding is what made Chelsy realise royal life was “not for her”.
She wrote: “Being part of the royal wedding had made Chelsy’s mind up once and for all.

“The life of a royal bride was not for her and she told Harry she could never make the sacrifices Kate had made.”
The royal expert described Harry’s best man speech as “affectionate, warm and funny” and revealed that, when Harry said William and Kate’s relationship inspired him, his new sister in-law shed a tear and Chelsy smiled.
He also gently mocked his brother, saying: “William didn’t have a romantic bone in his body before he met Kate, so I knew it was serious when William suddenly started cooing down the phone at Kate.”
Harry then impersonated his brother calling Kate ‘Babykins’ to raucous laughter from the guests.
While traditionally the best man makes fun of the groom in an affectionate, light-hearted way, the bride is generally seen as off-limits.
Therefore, Harry took Chelsy’s advice and stopped short at bringing up Kate’s “killer legs” so as not to embarrass her.
