William and Kate share loved-up glamorous picture to mark new year
Prince William and Kate have marked the new year by sharing a picture of themselves dressed up in their finest going-out gear.
The royals wished the country a happy 2022 with the loved-up picture taken in the back of a car after the James Bond premiere earlier this year.
William, wearing a dinner jacket and bowtie, is seen smiling broadly next to a grinning Kate who is wearing a sparkling gold sequinned gown.
It captures a high-point in a busy year for the Cambridges, which saw them take on an ever-more important role within the family.
The couple, who marked their 10 year wedding anniversary in 2021, launched various new charity initiatives including the Earth Shot prize rewarding climate innovators.
It was also a year marked by sadness as William’s grandfather, Prince Philip, died in April while he had to defend accusations the royals were ‘racist’ after brother Harry appeared on TV with Oprah Winfrey.
A body language expert said the choice of new year photo ‘reminded us of their enduring love.’
Judy James told The Sun: ‘This simple, sexy and very loving photo that the Cambridges have chosen for their New Year message is subtly packed with what look like several coded messages about their both their relationship with each other and their relationship with the UK public, with their future roles as King and Queen in mind.
‘Why is it sexy? Because it looks so much like an echo of the poses we used to glimpse of the couple during their dating years, when they would often be seen flirting and getting tactile together in the back of limos after rolling out of parties.
‘Since their wedding their body language together has been much more discreet but the choice of composition suggests they are still very much the same fun, flirty duo that they were back then.’
The Cambridges are believed to have gone to Kate’s family in West Berkshire to celebrate New Year, having spent Christmas in Norfolk.
Kate will begin 2022 by marking her 40th birthday on January 9 although it is expected the celebrations will be ‘lowkey’ and ‘family-focused.’
Royal author Duncan Larcombe told OK! ‘Kate and William are not the sort to go away to celebrate on their own and leave the kids at home.
‘I think the same will apply to Kate’s birthday as it does to Christmas – it will be low key and it will be focused entirely on the family.’
The couple will also play a part in celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year as she becomes the first monarch to spend seven decades on the throne.
June 2 to June 5 will see a series of events reflecting on the Queen’s long years on the throne, while the country will also enjoy an extra bank holiday.
