William and Kate pay tribute to Leicester helicopter victims
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have visited Leicester City’s football ground to pay tribute to the victims of the helicopter crash that killed the club’s owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.
The royal couple knew the Thai businessman, who died with four other people in the tragedy outside the King Power Stadium last month.
William and Kate were greeted by Mr Srivaddhanaprabha’s son Aiyawatt, daughter Aroonroong and widow Aimon.
The duke held Aiyawatt’s hand while they spoke before introducing him to the duchess.
Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, captain Wes Morgan, and manager Claude Puel were among the club’s representatives at the event on Wednesday.
Kate laid flowers at the tribute site outside the stadium as William stood beside her.
A card left with the bouquet read: “To Vichai and all those who died in this terrible tragedy, you will be dearly missed. Our sincere condolences to the city of Leicester.”
Along with Mr Srivaddhanaprabha, those killed in the helicopter crash were club employees Kaveporn Punpare and Nursara Suknamai, pilot Eric Swaffer and his partner Izabela Roza Lechowicz, also a professional pilot.
