William and Kate feel like they are in a ‘goldfish bowl’ when in London
Prince William appears to comfort Kate
Prince William and Kate, Princess of Wales, feel as though they have little to no privacy when in London, a royal commentator has claimed.
They previously lived in Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace before moving to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor and when visiting the capital, the couple stays there.
Kensington Palace — which has Princess Diana, Princess Margaret and the Duke of Edinburgh among its previous tenants — has often been likened to living in a “fish bowl”.
It lies near bustling Kensington High Street with the palace itself visible from Kensington Palace Gardens.
Discussing tourism being on their London doorstep, the Daily Express’s Royal Roundup host Pandora Forsyth said: “Kate Middleton… or Prince William spoke about feeling as though they’re in a goldfish bowl around there.”

While the palace is home to Prince and Princess Michael of Kent as well as the Waleses when in London, historic parts of Kensington Palace are open to the public.
Thousands visit the royal residences each year. Before the pandemic, in 2019/2020, more than half a million people visited Buckingham Palace, according to Statista, and income from ticket admissions to the Royal Estate amounted to roughly £50million in that same period.
Last year, Kate and William moved their three children to the four-bedroom Adelaide Cottage with their Spanish Norland nanny Maria Borrallo living nearby rather than in house, giving them a more “normal” childhood away from the hustle and bustle of the capital.

Royal biographer and editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, Ingrid Seward, told the Sun in August last year: “I think Wills and Kate need space to bring up their children.
“Kensington Palace is a glorious prison for kids — they want to be able to play football without being watched from behind the gates. I think Windsor will be perfect for them, as they will have lots of freedom and they can all be at school together.”
Queen Camilla also enjoys scaping the hubbub as she reportedly dashes off to her private home in Wiltshire which serves as her “sanity valve”.

The 75-year-old purchased the mansion known as Ray Mill for the best part of £1million after divorcing her first husband Andrew Parker Bowles.
The new Queen, who lived there permanently from 1996 until 2003, now uses it to escape the “goldfish bowl of royal life”.
Earlier this year, royal expert Jennie Bond told OK!: “She has her own house where she can put her muddy Wellington boots on and a pair of old jeans and romp around the garden with her grandchildren or just on her own, and just have some peace and calm and quiet.”
