William and Harry’s ‘showdown’ over Meghan led Sussexes to cancel Balmoral trip

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle rumours discussed by Schofield

Prince Harry and Prince William reportedly had a “showdown” before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to snub an invitation to Balmoral.

Harry and Meghan Markle have turned down an “open invitation” for the Royal Family’s first summer holiday without the late Queen Elizabeth II, it has been claimed.

King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to head to Scotland mid-August before being joined by the Prince and Princess of Wales and other royals.

But for the third time, Harry and Meghan are not expected to make the trip.

The first time the Sussexes missed the holiday was in 2019 – when the pair were still senior working royals – after a row between the brothers, the Mirror reports.

Royal author Robert Lacey claims Prince Harry and Prince William had a “showdown” over the edition of Vogue Meghan guest-edited.

Meghan guest-edited the September 2019 issue of the popular magazine entitled ‘Forces for Change’.

In his book Battle of Brothers, Mr Lacey claims William tried to “discuss the issues” raised in the magazine with Harry but there was “another classic Harry explosion”.

He added: “Suddenly Harry, Meghan and Archie were no longer joining William, Kate and the other members of the Royal Family for their annual summer holiday with Grandma at Balmoral.”

At the time Buckingham Palace said Prince Archie, who was three months old, was too young to travel to Scotland for the trip.

Mr Lacey added: “But that didn’t stop the Sussexes somehow managing to travel to Minorca for a week that August, and then taking Archie with them for a few days in the South of France with Elton John and his partner David Furnish.”

The Sussexes were also reportedly invited to stay at the castle last summer by the late Queen Elizabeth II, but again turned it down.

Balmoral was largely thought to be Her Majesty’s favourite place where she could get away from the public and spend time outdoors and with her family.

It is also the place she spent her final months before her death in September.
