Mark Dyer, who served in Northern Ireland during the Troubles, is reportedly acting as a go-between for the warring siblings. Relations between William and Harry appeared to deteriorate last year, when the Duke of Sussex told ITV’s Tom Bradby in a frank interview that he and William were on “different paths”. Brotherly relations reportedly worsened when William tried to advise his younger brother to not rush his relationship with Meghan, when the couple started dating.

According to sources, speaking to the Daily Mail, Harry resented this brotherly intervention into his private life.

Things got so bad that they reportedly didn’t talk for week’s after Harry’s wedding.

Then Megxit and the way it played out created further tensions and divisions between the once close brothers.

However, the unceasing efforts of Mr Dyer appear now to be paying dividends, as relations between the two brothers have improved.

A friend told the Daily Mail: “Long transatlantic chats between Mark and Harry have started to reap healing dividends between the brothers.

“His advice to the Prince was ‘talk and listen’.”

The friend added: “Both William and Harry are proud and angry.

“Both felt let down by each other. William felt that Harry had deserted his family and his duty.

“Harry felt that William and Kate hadn’t welcomed Meghan into the fold.

“However, both realised what was at stake and that they were in danger of losing each other.

“They are now talking, but it will take time to mend.”

Mr Dyer started to play a pivotal role in the princes’ lives, after the death of their mother Diana, Princess of Wales.

In particular, he soon developed a strong bond with Harry and attended his Sandhurst passing-out ceremony, as well as helping him to establish his Sentebale charity in Africa.

The 53-year-old Guards officer has been described as “one of the few people who talks some sense into Harry”.

Such is the regard between the pair, that Mr Dyer was invited to become the godfather to Harry’s son Archie.

Mr Dyer’s Texan wife Amanda has also played a pivotal role in the relationship building exercise.

She has become a good friend of Meghan’s and gained her trust, after helping the Duchess to adjust to life in the Royal Family.

Mr Dyer appears to be now filling the gap that was left by the retirement of the Queen’s longstanding private secretary Christopher Geidt.

Mr Geidt retired from his post in 2017, but played a key role in smoothing over any grievances between the boys and the rest of the family.

He also helped mediate their relationship with their father, Prince Charles, with whom the princes are said to have a complex relationship.

A friend told People: “There is a lot of hurt and a lot of unresolved issues between the boys, and no one to help mediate.”

The friend added that as a result: ”Petty grievances can become huge conflicts between all the different royal offices if they aren’t managed correctly, and that’s exactly what’s happening now.”
