The oldest heir apparent in British history will become King when Queen Elizabeth II, 95, either steps down or dies. Over the years, there have been multiple calls for Charles to hand the crown to his eldest son, Prince William.
And now, following his speech to world leaders, activists and experts during the COP26 opening ceremony, there have been renewed calls for Charles to give up the throne.
One Twitter user, Isabel C Martins, wrote: “He is old, William a king. “The old future king.”
While King of Pentacles added: “Prince Charles… love your mum but we are done.
“Don’t even try and become King. “I am a more fitting King than you.”
Someone else, Roydy, said Charles would be an “embarrassment” to this “great nation” if he becomes king.
They wrote: “Prince Charles will never be our king.
“He’s an embarrassment to this great nation..”
Gilbert Jackson added: “It’s going to be a sad day for Britain when the Queen dies because this is who we have taking over.”
However, others praised the future king and many said he will be “wonderful” when he ascends the throne.
In his speech to the Cop26 summit, Charles said the strength of the “global private sector” was greater than governments and represented the only “real prospect” of fundamental change.
Charles said: “The scale and scope of the threat we face call for a global, systems-level solution, based on radically transforming our current fossil fuel-based economy to one that is genuinely renewable and sustainable.
“So ladies and gentlemen, my plea today is for countries to come together to create the environment that enables every sector of industry to take the action required.

“We know this will take trillions, not billions, of dollars.
“We also know that countries, many of whom are burdened by growing levels of debt, simply cannot afford to ‘go green’.
“Here we need a vast military-style campaign to marshal the strength of the global private sector.
“With trillions at its disposal – far beyond global GDP and, with the greatest respect, beyond even the governments of the world’s leaders – it offers the only real prospect of achieving fundamental economic transition.”
