Emergency services, including an air ambulance, police officers and paramedics, rushed to Wigton shortly before 2pm after a man attacked two men and a woman in two separate locations using a “bladed article”, police said. Two of the victims are in serious condition, and all those attacked have been taken to hospital. 

A terrified witness described one of the victim as “drenched in blood”. 

They added: “Air ambulance circling overhead, police and ambulance vehicles all over the place.” 

A man has been arrested in relation to the horrific assault, police said. 

A Cumbria Police spokesman said in a statement: “Police are currently dealing with an incident in Wigton. 

“A 49-year-old man has been arrested following an incident where three people were assaulted.

“At 1.50pm it was reported to police that three people were assaulted in Wigton.

“A woman was injured on Church Street. 

“Two men were also injured on King Street. 

“All three are being taken to hospital.

“Police and NWAS are in attendance at the scene.

“We are working quickly to establish the circumstances of what has occurred and who is involved.”
