Widow pays tribute to PC Andrew Harper as man charged with murder
A 20-year-old man has been charged with the murder of PC Andrew Harper, who was killed while investigating a reported burglary on Thursday.
Jed Foster, from Reading, has also been charged with the theft of a quad bike.
PC Harper, 28 died after being dragged under the wheels of a car at around 11.30pm near the Berkshire village of Sulhamstead.
He had only got married four weeks ago and was reportedly due to go on his honeymoon this week.
In a tribute, PC Harper’s widow Lissie called him ‘the kindest, loveliest, most selfless person’.
She added: ‘My darling boy I do not know how I will be able to survive without you.’
Nine other suspects aged between 13 and 30 have been released on bail until 13 September.
A crowdfunding page set up on behalf of the traffic officer’s family by the Thames Valley Police Federation has raised nearly £180,000.
It smashed the £100,000 mark in less than 24 hours as tributed poured in for the heroic policeman.
A message on the fundraising page reads: ‘We confront danger on a daily basis. We know there is a risk when we put on the uniform but we do so as we are proud to protect the public.
‘Sadly, on very rare and horrendous occasions, a colleague makes the ultimate sacrifice. We will ensure that heroism is never forgotten.’
