Ann Widdecombe claimed that Matt Hancock had not taken into account how he might be edited by the producers. Ms Widdecombe and Jeremy Vine discussed reports that Mr Hancock was going to be a cast member on the popular reality TV show in order to promote his dyslexia campaign. She suggested he could face the same obstacles former MP George Galloway grappled with when appearing on Celebrity Big Brother in 2006.
Mr Vine said: “The friends say Matt doesn’t expect to be in Government again, so it’s an incredible opportunity.
“He will use his time in the jungle to promote his dyslexia campaign. There we are Ann, we’ve got to it, he’s going to promote his dyslexia campaign.”
Ms Widdecombe told Jeremy Vine on 5: “That is exactly what George Galloway said about going on Big Brother.
“He said he was going to promote The Respect Party. What he didn’t take into account is there is this thing called editing.

“And it doesn’t follow that because you say something that it’s going to be shown.”
Co-panellist Kevin Maguire butted in to ask the former Conservative MP about her memories of Mr Galloway on Celebrity Big Brother: “What do you remember about him, do you remember him in like a giant stocking?
“Being a cat, licking imaginary milk from Rula Lenska’s hand?”
Ms Widdecombe said: “Well he went on it to promote The Respect Party, I mean c’mon!”

Despite the backlash Mr Hancock is receiving, some British media personalities think appearing on the programme will be a good opportunity for him.
A former contestant of the TV show, Stanley Johnson came out in defence of Mr Hancock as he insisted the ITV show will give him a chance to discuss his views.
Mr Johnson told LBC: “I don’t share in the huge general outcry which there seems to be about Matt Hancock.
“I do take his point that there you are, you have an audience, I think it’s several million who watch it.
“You have a chance, when does that chance come for a politician to make some points?
“He said that he is going to be seeking at all possible moments to raise the issue of dyslexia.
“I take him at his word there. I tried at all possible moments to raise the issue of climate change, general warming, and biodiversity.
“A lot of those things hit the cutting room floor I’m sure.
“But I’m not going to join in this great chorus of indignation about Matt Hancock.”
And added: “It’s worth Matt Hancock seizing whatever moment he had between chomping on a mouthful of animal parts.”
