Why these two UK seaside towns are labelled the ‘country’s worst’ by visitors

Eastbourne: Ariel views of East Sussex seaside resort

As temperatures soar this summer, many Britons have been looking to spend sunny days lounging by the beach, however, some locals seem to be avoiding these two beaches with the lowest ratings in the UK. According to a survey by Which?, two beaches in the UK received only one star for peace and quiet as well as the rundown beachfront.

According to the 3,000 voters, seaside resorts Clacton-on-Sea and Skegness received the lowest ratings.

Both resorts scored just 48 percent.

Their beaches received an average rating of three out of five stars, but visitors were less impressed with the dilapidated seafronts, particularly Skegness, which received a mere one-star rating in this category.

On TripAdvisor one Skegness beachgoer said: “Never again. It’s a hole. Dirty place. The people look so dirty and why have they got no teeth?? 1 day was enough for me. Will never return.”

Both resorts also received a one-star rating for peace and quiet.

However, some survey respondents did mention positive aspects of Clacton-on-Sea, such as its “lovely” seafront gardens and the “fantastic” annual airshow.

Situated on the Essex Sunshine Coast, Clacton-on-Sea stands as the largest town and a buzzing budget-friendly seaside resort.

The town offers plenty of entertainment options, ranging from the pleasure pier and lively arcades to the Princes and West Cliff Theatres.

Additionally, visitors can enjoy activities like golfing, scenic seafront walks and water sports.

Skegness also garnered praise for its “old-fashioned” charm, offering plenty of entertainment for children, including donkey rides on the beach, an aquarium, and arcades.

On the other end of the spectrum, Bamburgh in Northumberland was the highest rated beach in the UK, and even out rated popular tourist hotspots like Brighton and Blackpool.

According to the pollster, it secured the top position for the third consecutive year.

Bamburgh achieved a perfect five-star rating across various categories including its beach, seafront, scenery, accommodation, value for money, and peace and quiet.

It obtained an exceptional overall destination score of 88 percent.

The second highest rated is in Dartmouth, Devon, with an 85 percent rating.

Trailing close behind in third place is Portstewart, County Londonderry/Derry, with a score of 84 percent.
