Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi’s first child together, Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi, is now 11th in the line of succession to the throne. Beatrice’s baby daughter was born on September 18, and royal fans were eagerly awaiting news of the baby’s name until last Friday when the couple finally revealed their beautiful choice.
Why does baby Sienna now share a connection with Zara, Louise and Lilibet?
Sienna’s middle name of Elizabeth is clearly a tribute to Beatrice’s grandmother and Sienna’s great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
Baby Sienna now shares this link with several other women in the Royal Family.
Zara Tindall, Princess Anne and Lady Louise Windsor are just some of the royal women who have the middle name Elizabeth.
Baby Sienna is also one of four of the Queen’s 12 great-granddaughters who also bear the middle name of Elizabeth.
Peter Phillip’s daughter Isla, Prince William’s daughter Princess Charlotte, and Zara Tindall’s daughter Lena all have the middle name Elizabeth.
Another of the Queen’s great-granddaughters, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, was born to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle earlier this year.
And Lilibet’s first name is also a touching tribute to the Queen, as Lilibet is the Queen’s family nickname.
What does the name Sienna mean?
Beatrice’s husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi has Italian heritage.
So the name Sienna, which is Italian in origin, was likely chosen to pay tribute to Edoardo’s Italian family.
The name Sienna can also be seen as a tribute to Beatrice’s beloved mother Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York.

Like Sarah, Sienna’s first name starts with the letter ‘S’.
A source told HELLO!: “They were looking for an Italian name which started with an S for Sarah, to honour the Duchess [Sarah Ferguson]”.
The source added the name “also reflected the golden rust colour of both the Duchess’ hair colour and Beatrice’s, which the new baby shares.”
According to babycentre, the meaning of the name Sienna stems “from the Italian city of Siena, which gave its name to a reddish shade of brown.”
Why does baby Sienna have her father’s surname?
Princess Beatrice has held a Princess title since birth as the granddaughter of the Queen through the male line.
But Beatrice’s baby Sienna is not entitled to a Princess title under the royal rules, which were agreed more than 100 years ago.
So because Sienna doesn’t have a royal title, she instead has the same surname as her father, Mapelli Mozzi.
