Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, are waiting out the nationwide lockdown in their Birhall residence on the Balmoral estate. However, the royal couple may be getting a bit “bored” of their surroundings as they are isolated in the Scottish highlands. ITV News Royal Editor Chris Ship and Producer Lizzie Robinson spoke about what the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall could be up to on their Royal Rota podcast.

Mr Ship told listeners: “I know how much Camilla and Charles like the countryside and all the rest of it.

“But at what point do they get a bit fed up of being at Birkhall?

“At what point do they say, ‘oh God I wish we decided to spend the lockdown in Highgrove’ or ‘I wish we’d stayed at Clarence House for the lockdown’?

“I’m sure everyone’s getting a bit bored of their surroundings.”

He added: “But I wonder at what point that feeling hit Charles and Camilla.”

Ms Robinson said: “Well they really have picked an absolutely beautiful setting to spend their lockdown.

“The Balmoral estate is huge and vast but also really spectacular and very beautiful.

“They will have plenty of different walks that they can go on every day so I think they’ve chosen quite well.”

Mr Ship insisted: “Nevertheless I’ve noticed actually in some of the pictures that we’ve had from Birkhall that’s it’s not been as nice as it has been in the rest of the country.

“Scotland is not well known for its blue skies and sunshine.

“I’ve noticed it’s been definitely a lot cooler and greyer where he’s been.”

He continued: “So maybe they’re looking on at the rest of the country with envy.”

Ms Robinson replied: “It is probably ideal for gardening though which we know that they both really enjoy.

“Ideal for walking the dogs up on those beautiful hills in Aberdeenshire.”

Charles and Camilla left London for Scotland in late March just as the lockdown restrictions were imposed.

They also isolated in the residence when the Prince of Wales tested positive for coronavirus.
