Why Kate wears colourful outfits while Meghan Markle opts monochrome REVEALED
Meghan Markle frequently attends royal engagements wearing an all-black ensemble, yet sister-in-law Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, typically goes for more striking colours. The two senior royals often wear different styles of outfits too, with Kate often wearing long fitted dresses and skirts and Meghan opting for more revealing outfits. Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams described both Kate and Meghan as “style icons” and explained their different in taste is due to their separate roles within the Royal Family.
He told Express.co.uk: “Kate does wear coloured clothes, but they are often mid length and tailored.
“She wears rather demure outfits, as she is dressing as the future Queen.”
The royal expert said both Kate and Meghan are fashion icons with “an extraordinary global reach”.
He said their choice of outfits often impacts the sales of different brands, sometimes causing a “frenzy”.
In her last royal outing, Kate wore a pale blue mid length Emilia Wickstead dress, teamed with tanned heels and a white clutch.
At Trooping the Colour, the annual Queen’s birthday parade, the Duchess wore a light yellow coat dress by Alexander McQueen.
By contrast, Meghan opted for a classic monochrome look, wearing a bespoke navy Givenchy dress.
But Meghan offers wear dark colour, frequently wearing black clothing to royal engagements.

Mr Fitzwilliams says Meghan often opts for black, plain clothing to not upstage the charity and people she supports during royal engagements.
Otherwise, he said, “the dress can become the news”.
He said: “Wearing black does two things, it allows the cause that she is supporting and the people she is meeting to be more prominent.
“It is a safer way to ensure things that want her support will get more prominence.”

He added black is a “safe colour” and “tends to mean that more publicity is given to the cause and the people”.
He said: “By choosing to wear black, Meghan ensures the outfit stays out of the limelight and gives more publicity to the cause.”
The royal expert commends Meghan’s choice of clothing colour, and said black is “one of the most dynamic and chic” colours that she wears so well.
In particular, Mr Fitzwilliams admired Meghan’s “iconic” black tuxedo dress from Judith and Charles that she wore to a gala performance of Hamilton last year.
In this case he says “the outfit got more attention”, but that event was about “making a statement” – something that “enhanced the Sussex brand and the musical”.
When asked to compare Kate and Meghan’s different choice in dress, Mr Fitzwilliams said: “I don’t see them as competing, both Kate and Meghan are style icons, but totally different.”
Ultimately the two senior royals have different future roles, but he said there is “phenomenon global interest” in what both Meghan and Kate wear.
