Where Meghan Markle really wants to move – but isn’t Harry’s first choice, friend claims

Meghan and Harry’s future roles within the Royal Family are still hanging in the balance, but their friends are already speculating about where they will settle down in North America. A friend of the Duchess of Sussex, met at the exclusive members’ club Soho House in Toronto, claimed the former Suits star would love to return to Toronto with her new family.

Meghan has lived in the city for six years while starring in the TV show.

However, other friends have claimed Prince Harry would be happy to find a home on the west coast of Canada, where he has been staying for six weeks during the break he and his wife took from royal engagements.

Toronto, according to a member of the Soho House, would be ideal not just for Meghan, who there has connections she didn’t have in London, but would also grant Prince Harry and Archie the privacy the Duke wants for his children.

They told The Times: “Meghan has a lot of connections here.

“She finds it comfortable and believes it is somewhere they can develop new roles and pursue her interests.

“I don’t think she felt that same connection in the UK.

“There isn’t the same focus here on celebrities.

“She can be walking down the street and people won’t interfere.

“Harry doesn’t want that constant pressure, he doesn’t want his son to go through that.”

Despite details regarding the future of the Sussexes still need to be set in stone by senior aides, who have been working round the clock with UK and Canada’s governments officials to carve out roles for the pair, the Queen has already announced Meghan and Harry will live between Canada and the UK during the “period of transition” from senior royals to financially independent members of the family.

In a statement released on Monday, after a summit at Sandringham House with Harry, Prince William and Prince Charles, the monarch said: “Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family.

“My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family.

“Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.

“Harry and Meghan have made clear that they do not want to be reliant on public funds in their new lives.

“It has therefore been agreed that there will be a period of transition in which the Sussexes will spend time in Canada and the UK.

“These are complex matters for my family to resolve, and there is some more work to be done, but I have asked for final decisions to be reached in the coming days.”

Meghan and Harry themselves have asked in their bombshell statement issued last week for the possibility to live between the UK and North America.

This mobility, they said, would allow them to work on new projects while keeping Archie, eight months old, connected to his royal and British roots.
