When are the school holidays in 2021?

Schools may stay closed until after Easter, the Children’s Commissioner has warned – meaning that some children may continue to be homeschooled until the summer term.

Anne Longfield has suggested that Boris Johnson’s plan to reopen schools by mid-February is increasingly unlikely.

Her report came as the PM said he will ‘look at’ the idea of reopening classrooms in areas where the virus is less prevalent.

So whether kids are returning to school or learning from home, when are the school holidays meant to fall for this academic year?

When are the school holidays in 2021?

In spring, schools will break up for half term on Friday 12 February and pupils will return on Monday 22 February 2021, which is followed by the Spring holiday starting on Thursday 1 April 2021.

Children normally have two weeks off over the Easter period, with the Spring holiday ending on Friday 16 April 2021.

After returning on Monday 19 April, the final half term of the academic year is set to start on Monday 31 May and last for one week.

Students will then be back in class until the end of the school year, which will be around Monday 26 July 2021.

After the summer holiday, the new school year will begin on Wednesday 1 September 2021. The half term starts on Monday 25 October and lasts for one week.

Children will then return to school from Monday 1 November, breaking up for Christmas on Friday 17 January.
