What will the Cambridge kids be eating this Xmas?

Royal family 'could surprise Queen at Christmas' says expert

The Royal Family has had their Christmas scuppered by Boris Johnson, who, along with ministers, have plunged much of the south-east into Tier 4. For the Cambridges, this means no visits with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip at Sandringham, or Mike, Carole and Pippa Middleton at Buckleberry Manor in Berkshire. But it doesn’t mean the Cambridge kids will go without, as the royals recently unveiled a Christmas children’s treat straight from their kitchens.

What will the Cambridge kids eat this Christmas?

While the Cambridge family won’t journey down south for Christmas, they won’t go without luxury.

They haven’t announced any alternative plans for the day, but regardless they can stay at the picturesque and well-equipped Anmer Hall residence.

There, royal chefs could whip up an extravagant treat they revealed today.

Writing on Twitter, the Royal Family official Twitter account unveiled a luxurious gingerbread house.

The recipe came straight from the Royal Kitchens, and the royals shared it with the public.

They wrote: “In the run-up to Christmas, the chefs in the Royal kitchens have shared their recipe for making the perfect Gingerbread House.

“If you decide to make the house yourself, we’d love to see what you’ve made.”

The gingerbread house is a minor addition to the Royal Family’s decadent Christmas feast, according to one ex-chef.

Darren Grady once served with the royals as a senior chef from 1982 to 1993.

He revealed to the BBC what they would eat for breakfast, lunch and pudding for Christmas Day.

He said: “They would start with a full cooked breakfast on Christmas Day.”

“They opened their Christmas presents the day before, on Christmas Eve.

“So after breakfast they’d go to church, come back and go on to lunch.”

Mr Grady revealed the royal lunch matches traditions likely shared by the rest of the UK.

He said they have a turkey with a rich stuffing followed by a Christmas pudding.

He added: “Usually it was homemade sage and onion stuffing, Brussels sprouts with bacon and chestnuts, sometimes parsnips and carrots – it varied year to year – mashed potatoes and roast potatoes, homemade gravy, then Christmas pudding with brandy sauce.”

They don’t add in a Christmas staple – a hidden coin – to the pudding, as the Queen Mother once “choked on a fishbone” which made staff “too nervous” to include any errant objects in the food.

But they make sure to include a selection of replacement deserts.

Mr Grady said: “Later in the day there would be afternoon tea, and that always included a chocolate Yule log, a Christmas cake made by the chefs in the kitchen and a selection of chocolatey pastries.”
