What Meghan Markle and Harry love to do to end their day revealed during Africa tour
Meghan and Harry opened up on what they both do before going to sleep during their visit to Monwabisi Beach this morning. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are carrying out engagements on the second day of their whirlwind tour to Africa. This morning, Meghan and Harry met mentors of the Waves for Change charity, an organisation that sees local surfers helping children and teenagers in need in Cape Town.
Accompanied by the sound of the waves in False Bay, Meghan and Harry joined in the welcome Kilo, a welcoming circle which sees participants dancing, clapping and chanting, and took part in a meditation activity called Power Hand.
This activity, Meghan and Harry were told, promotes positive thinking and teaches children how to deal with stress and calm down.
After performing it, Meghan and Harry told the co-founder of Waves for Change, Apish Tshetsha, they both like to end their day with reflection and meditation.
Meghan is known for being a fan of wellness and yoga, a passion she most likely took after her mother Doria Ragland, a yoga teacher.
And in her now-closed lifestyle blog The Tig, Meghan revealed years ago her relationship with meditation.
In a blog entry dated 2015 and titled Introduction to Meditation, Meghan revealed how she started practicing Vedic Meditation, a technique involving the use of a mantra.
Revealing she was introduced to a man named Light who “made you feel good to be around him”, Meghan said: “Turns out Light is a Vedic Meditation coach.
“That type of meditation that Russell Simmons swears by, that people say changes their life and the trajectory of their future — more success, more fulfilment, more happiness, less worry.
“I had to talk to him about this. And I did.
“In addition to taking his course.”
The man Meghan is speaking about is LA-based yoga instructor Light Watkins, who has in the past claimed to have spent four days with the Duchess to give her one-to-one guidance on meditation.
Ever since her meeting with Light, Meghan said meditation became a must-do for her, as it made her calmer and “happier”.
The then-actress continued: “I can’t put my finger on the why or the how, but I will tell you this much, for me… I am just happier. And meditation has much to do with that.
“I know you’ll think of a million excuses as to why this is silly or why you don’t have time for it; much like the day I told Light I didn’t have enough hours in the day to do it, and he told me that’s why I needed to meditate twice as much.
“Not gonna lie, I rolled my eyes thinking ‘Oh give me a break, mystic man.’ But low and behold, this mystical man was right.”
Meghan is believed to have introduced her husband Prince Harry to meditation and a healthier lifestyle.
Earlier this year, Prince Harry explained during a visit to community cafe and supermarket Number 7 in Birkenhead he practices meditation “every day.”
Speaking to Buddhist monk Kelsang Sonam, Harry spoke fondly of his new hobby, and even received from Mr Sonam a copy of the book 8 Steps to Happiness.
Meghan may have also drawn Harry closer to yoga, after the pair installed in their new home in Windsor, Frogmore Cottage, a yoga studio.
