Speaking to US Weekly Princess Diana biographer and royal expert Stewart Pearce recalled a charming childhood memory of being told off by the Queen at Buckingham Palace. Mr Pearce explained how as a child he would accompany his father, who worked at the Palace, to work and play in the corridors. But he said how one day Her Majesty caught him flying paper planes from the top of a large staircase and then invited him in to her office for tea.
Mr Pearce said: “I always remember the stationary as a kid, I’m talking about 7-12 (years old).
“Because it was a certain size and a certain thickness of paper – I can still remember the smell.
“And it would make the most amazing paper aeroplanes! You could create aerofoils and all sorts of things.
“So you can imagine standing at the top of one of those grand staircases (in Buckingham Palace) with no drafts and then throwing it!”

“I thought that was great fun, I used to love doing that.”
Mr Pearce then went on to recall the day the Queen gave him a telling off.

The royal expert quipped: “And I remember one day my father saying ‘where are you going to go?…Don’t go any further!
“So I was just flying my planes and I suddenly hear this voice ‘what are you doing!’
“I turned around and there was her Majesty! Seven years of age I don’t know what I said.
“She simply said ‘come here! Oh, it is Stewart, come into my sitting room’ so we went into her sitting room.
