The BBC Political Editor is reporting from the event in Rome where top world leaders are discussing climate change, the relaunch of the global economy and COVID-19 vaccines. In one tweet, Ms Kuenssberg focused her reporting on the attendance of Boris Johnson’s wife Carrie, creating a stir on social media.
The journalist wrote on Friday: “Heading to Rome for PM G20 summit – Carrie Johnson also on the way for her first foreign trip.”
Responding, Dr Mike Galsworthy said: “Where would we be without the BBC’s journalism?
“I really don’t want my tax money going on Kuenssberg’s Hello magazine reporting.”
The media commentator continued: “I guess it’s different if Carrie is your bestie – then this is all very exciting.
“But for the rest of us, we want quality news & public education on some pretty huge issues in play right now. “

Darren Ewers said on the social media platform: “Quality news keep away from the BBC.”
A third Twitter user asked: “BBC, what about sending a professional, unbiased reporter, you know, just for a change?”
Another user questioned: “Why mention Carrie at all?
“Are you the politics editor for the BBC or a gossip columnist at Hello?”
Brexit: Boris Johnson 'worried' France is in breach of trade deal
Criticising Ms Kuenssberg’s role as a political editor, one user demanded: “Why aren’t you asking WHY she is on the trip?
“What’s her job?
“I thought you were supposed to be a journalist.”
One user said it was inaccurate for the BBC Political Editor to say that the trip to Rome for the G20 was Mrs Johnson’s first.
The user claimed: “Are you saying she has never been abroad before or are you saying this is her first ‘official foreign visit’?
“Because if the latter — and I cannot stress this strongly enough — she is not a government official.”
On Saturday, the BBC Political Editor then posted: “Buongiorno from this incredible city.
“Johnson will see Macron today, alongside Merkel and Biden, in theory to talk about Iran.
“Wonder if there’ll be a word on ongoing tensions over fishing rights-belief on UK side that French attitude has rather a lot to do with their election.”
The tweet also sparked anger among readers, with one user asking her to “report actual facts”.
Another user, Tom Runnacles asked: “And what’s the French perspective?
“You wouldn’t just report whatever the hell number 10 tells you without checking on the other side’s thoughts, surely Laura?”
Guy Malon said: “There will be lies Laura and lots of them.
“You could do the country a favour and start reporting them.”
