The broadcaster was quick to shut down a listener who texted in claiming the work the British Government and the UK as a whole have put in to tackle the climate emergency is “irrelevant.” But Ms Fogarty took issue with the claim, insisting the time to underestimate the risks have passed and “we can’t shrug our shoulders” anymore. The LBC host said: “Let me just read this text that has come in.

“‘It’s absolutely irrelevant to what we do here in the UK…’ I’m afraid I just don’t agree.

“We can’t take that attitude that it’s irrelevant. One of the first speakers, beyond Prince Charles, Attenborough, and the Prime Minister was a woman from one of the Polynesian islands describing how they’re not drowning, they are fighting what’s coming.

“So they’re looking disaster in the face in a way we aren’t yet and they are fighting.

“They are fighting for their lives, they are fighting for their community.”

She continued: “So I just don’t buy the shoulder shrug anymore. We can’t shrug our shoulders and say it’s irrelevant what we do here in the UK” anymore.

“And even if you think behaviour change is irrelevant, or too small to make a difference, we’ll think of something else to make a difference.”

Samoan environmentalist Brianna Fruean took to the COP26 stage after Prince Charles kickstarted proceedings on Monday to discuss her community’s efforts to save the island from the impact of climate change.

Ms Fruean said: “We are not just victims to this crisis, we have been resilient beacons of hope.

“Pacific youth have rallied behind the cry ‘We are not drowning, we are fighting.

“This is our warrior cry to the world. We are not drowning, we are fighting. This is my message from Earth to COP.”

And Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Mottley unleashed a blistering rallying cry to fellow world leaders demanding immediate action to combat the climate emergency.

Ms Mottley said: “Our world, my friends, stands at a fork in the road, one no less significant than when the United Nations was formed in 1945.

“But then, the majority of our countries here did not exist – we exist now – and the difference is we want to exist 100 years from now.

“If our existence is to mean anything, then we must act in the interest of all of our people that are dependent on us.

“If we don’t, we will allow the path of greed and selfishness to sow the seeds of our common destruction.”
