Political commentator Patrick O’Flynn appeared on Jeremy Vine on 5 to discuss Prince Andrew’s civil court settlement and the resentment building across the UK against him. Several residents across the UK have voiced concerns about their street names being named after Prince Andrew and are campaigning to get them removed from signs. Mr O’Flynn discussed the process of removing Prince Andrew’s titles and bluntly pointed out that Parliament was there to represent the people and should listen to their concerns if they want Prince Andrew’s Duke of York moniker scrapped.
Speaking on Jeremy Vine on 5, Mr O’Flynn discussed Prince Andrew and joked how he did not have to deal with his home city being named after an unpopular royal.
He told the programme: “To go back to the point about whether he should lose his title or your title.
“I’m fortunate my home city is Cambridge, so I feel I’ve lucked out in my royals, I’ve really got the best ones or some of the best ones.
“But if I was from York or from Yorkshire, where there’s a very strong county pride and identity, I do think I would hate that association now…
“It will take an Act of Parliament well, actually Parliament is there to do Acts of Parliament.
“There are some Acts of Parliament that can go through in a day if there’s a consensus and they’re a very simple one-line act.
“So it can be done, I think if it takes an Act of Parliament, it probably should be done and I think probably that should be extended to his formal place in the line of succession.”
Journalist Yasmin Alibhai-Brown appeared to agree and wanted people to be given the chance to express their thoughts.

She added: “That’s an interesting one. We are a democracy if this is how the people of Yorkshire feel. We are a democracy.”
While Prince Andrew’s honourary titles have been taken from him by the Queen, he still retains his Duke of York title.
To remove the title would mean it needs to go through Parliament for a vote and then to the Queen for royal assent.
Some people across the country have called for the title to be removed as they do not want to be associated with the Duke of York by name.
York MP Rachael Maskell said he should give up his association with the city.
The Labour MP said Prince Andrew should show “respect for those affected by abuse and the people of our city” by the “withdrawal of his ducal title”.
A statement from Prince Andrew and Virginia Giuffre’s lawyers read: “Virginia Giuffre and Prince Andrew have reached an out-of-court settlement.
“The parties will file a stipulated dismissal upon Ms Giuffre’s receipt of the settlement (the sum of which is not being disclosed).
“Prince Andrew intends to make a substantial donation to Ms Giuffre’s charity in support of victims’ rights.
“Prince Andrew has never intended to malign Ms Giuffre’s character, and he accepts that she has suffered both as an established victim of abuse and as a result of unfair public attacks.
“It is known that Jeffrey Epstein trafficked countless young girls over many years. Prince Andrew regrets his association with Epstein and commends the bravery of Ms Giuffre and other survivors in standing up for themselves and others.
“He pledges to demonstrate his regret for his association with Epstein by supporting the fight against the evils of sex trafficking, and by supporting its victims.”
