Wayne Couzens 'arrested' Sarah Everard before he raped and murdered her
Ex-Metropolitan Police officer Wayne Couzens pretended to arrest Sarah Everard in order to kidnap, rape and murder her, a court has heard.
The disgraced firearms specialist is at the Old Bailey for sentencing this morning, with Scotland Yard saying it was ‘sickened, angered and devastated’ by his crimes.
Couzens, 48, had finished his shift with an elite diplomatic protection unit hours before targeting Sarah as she walked home from a friend’s house in Clapham, south London.
A huge search and rescue operation was launched to find the 33-year-old marketing executive, who lived in Brixton.
A week later, more than 50 miles away, her body was found hidden inside a green builder’s bag in a stretch of woodland in Ashford, Kent on March 10.
He was arrested at his home in nearby Deal, and later admitted to Sarah’s rape, kidnap and murder.
