Waterloo Station: Man dies on moving walkway – police investigation launched
The man was working on a travelator at the busy station.
Transport for London confirmed an engineed died and British Transport Police are investigating.
It is not clear what happened but a TfL spokeswoman confirmed he was working at the London station this morning.
He is thought to have been working on the moving walkway on the interchange between the Jubilee and Northern/Bakerloo tube lines, which were closed shortly after the incident.
Just after 5.24am, TfL said on Twitter: “Waterloo Station: No interchange between lines, due to a fault with the the travelator. Please exit the station and walk back in.”
The London Underground Jubilee Line’s official Twitter account added: “Waterloo Station: A one way system has been implemented at this station due to an ongoing police investigation.
“Customers are advised to avoid interchange where possible.”
At 7.30am, the Jubilee Line Twitter account said: “Waterloo Station – A one way system has been implemented at this station due to an ongoing police investigation, customers are advised to avoid interchange where possible.”
National rail services have not been affected by the incident.
