Vladimir Putin mocked for wearing high heels during university visit

Vladimir Putin has been mocked for wearing shoes with extra-large heels during an official visit.

The Kremlin chief, estimated to be 5ft 7in, sported the super-soles to pose with a group of young people at Moscow State University on Russian Students Day.

Mr Putin, 70, has been spotted wearing such heels for many years but these are thought to be the biggest yet.

One gleeful social media user remarked: ‘Russia’s president – a man so insecure and self-obsessed that he wears high heeled shoes.

‘And in an effort to make himself look even taller, then has smaller female students stand next to him.’

Meanwhile, Russian forces in Ukraine have carried out another widespread round of missile and drone strikes.

Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko said an attack killed one person, the capital’s first such death since New Year’s Eve, as well as leaving two injured.

The head of the city’s administration, Serhii Popko, said air defences shot down 15 cruise missiles.

Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky is expecting Moscow’s forces to launch a major spring offensive within weeks.

Britain is donating 14 Challenger 2 tanks to help repel the invaders and will next week begin teaching Ukrainian troops to use and fix them.

Defence minister Alex Chalk told MPs the vehicles should arrive in their new home ‘at the end of March’ following the ‘really significant’ training programme.

Germany and the US have also agreed to send dozens of tanks but Mr Zelensky has called for more, saying he needs at least 300 to defeat Russia.
