Violent criminal still at large after escaping mental health unit
A manhunt is underway to find an ‘extremely dangerous’ criminal who ran away from a mental health unit a week ago.
Aaron Moore, 31, who is diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and a personality disorder, absconded from North Middlesex Hospital in Enfield, north London, on Thursday June 21 at around 4pm.
The public are warned not to approach Moore as he is considered dangerous with a history of violence and has previously severely assaulted his doctor.
He is now believed to be ‘anywhere in the country’ and was last seen on CCTV making a large cash withdrawal at Tottenham’s Nationwide Building Society at 9:19am on Friday June 22.
Police believe he had secreted a driving licence and debit card in his underwear to withdraw the funds.
An appeal for information has now been issued to find Moore – who also suffers with diabetes – as new CCTV footage was released showing his escape.
Footage shows three staff members escorting a handcuffed Moore into the hospital, when he manages to break free and flee in the direction of the A406.
At 3.57pm a white people carrier from the psychiatric hospital is shown parked outside the front doors of the hospital, while three security staff get out of the vehicle with the suspect.
As they walk towards the doors Moore suddenly darts away from staff and sprints across the car park away from the hospital.
A staff member momentarily chases after him before stopping and heading back to the hospital.
Police described Moore as a ‘light skinned black man, around 6ft tall and of large/heavy build,’ along with a ‘scruffy beard’.
Detective Inspector, Paul Ridley, said: ‘It has now been one week since the disappearance of this extremely dangerous male.
‘I have been in contact with his clinician who has re-affirmed the risk that this man poses to the public.
‘Moore is also a heavy cannabis user which increases his risk of psychosis and unpredictable behaviour.’
Moore was last seen wearing a black puffa jacket with a hood, a grey hooded top with white drawstrings underneath and a black baseball cap with a white logo, while carrying a black Adidas rucksack.
The suspect has previously mentioned fleeing to Jamaica, added officers.
DI Rudley added: ‘I am actively appealing for any information from the public as to his whereabouts and will be taking robust action against any persons involved in assisting or harbouring this offender which is likely to result in arrest and prosecution.
‘He has demonstrated his violence in the past when he seriously assaulted a doctor responsible for his care.
‘If you see this man, I cannot re-emphasise my message enough, do not approach or challenge him, but dial 999 immediately.
‘I can assure the public that every sighting will be followed up by my team. He could have travelled anywhere across London or the Country. He may be using public transport.’
