Appalling CCTV footage showed the 20-year-old woman being attacked as she walks down a London alleyway by herself. The attacker is seen entering the alleyway behind the woman, pulling a shopping trolley with his left hand as his right hand can be seen clutching a dark cloth. The footage shows the man abandoning the trolley halfway through the alley as he slowly but steadily approaches the woman from behind.

He was then filmed trying to cover her face with what appears to be a pillowcase as the woman turns towards him.

The man then unleashed a series of blows to the woman’s stomach as she struggles to free herself from the covering over her face.

Met Police said they have launched an investigation to determine whether the attack, which took place in Stamford Hill, was racially motivated.

Officers in Hackney are appealing for witnesses passing by the Manor Road on Thursday, March 18, at 6.30pm to come forward in a bid to trace the attacker.

“The victim, a 20-year-old woman, informed officers that she had been approached from behind by the suspect, who put a cloth or pillowcase over her head before assaulting her.”

The attack comes amid rising concerns about the safety of women travelling alone around London in the aftermath of the Sarah Everard case.

Ms Everard, a 33-year-old marketing executive, disappeared while walking home after visiting a friend’s house in Clapham on March 3.

Her body was recovered in Kent the following week.

A serving member of the Met Police was stopped before Ms Everard’s remains were found and he was later charged with her murder and kidnap.
