The US government is offering a reward of up to $1m (£754,000) for help locating Osama bin Laden’s son Hamza.

A State Department notice has said the money will be paid as part of its “reward for justice” programme.

The announcement says Hamza bin Laden, reported to be 30 years old, has emerged as a leader of the al Qaeda terrorist group.

The State Department tweeted on Thursday: “WANTED. Up to $1million for information on Hamza bin Laden, an emerging al-Qa’ida leader.

“Hamza is son of [Osama] bin Laden and has threatened attacks against the United States and allies.

“Relocation possible. Submit a tip, get paid.”

Hamza bin Laden was named a “specially designated global terrorist” in January 2017, and has released audio and video messages calling for attacks against the US and its allies.

His father founded al Qaeda and was described as its spiritual leader.

The terror group was responsible for the September 11 attacks in the US that left 2,997 people dead in 2001.

Osama bin Laden was killed in a US military raid in Pakistan in May 2011.
