Urgent hunt for 'extremely dangerous' man who fled mental health unit
Police have issued an urgent appeal to track down a violent mental health patient who is becoming more dangerous by the day.
Aaron Moore, 31, has now been on the run for a fortnight and anyone who sees him is urged to call 999 immediately.
Police renewed their appeal this morning warning that he has not had medication and could be using public transport frequently.
Detective Inspector Paul Ridley said: ‘The risk to the public is acute and he is extremely dangerous, more so every day that elapses without taking his vital medication.’
He has previously attacked a doctor who was caring for him.
Moore, 31, escaped on Thursday June 21 at 4pm while being escorted to North Middlesex Hospital, Enfield, north London, by mental health unit staff.
DI Ridley added: ‘There has been a very strong sighting by a member of the public on Thursday June 27 at approximately 1.30pm in Staines, Surrey, where a female was approached and asked for a cigarette.
‘This man claimed that he was “on the run from a mental health institute” before making off. The witness stated that he matched the description of the photograph of Moore released in the media.’
Footage was released showing his escape from outside the A&E department when he darted across the car park.
One of the members of staff ran after him but stopped before returning to his colleagues.
Moore is a paranoid schizophrenic with a history of violence.
He is known to smoke cannabis which increases his risk of psychosis and unpredictable behaviour.
He also suffers diabetes and has previously talked about flying to Jamaica.
A day after he escaped he made a large cash withdrawal at a branch of Nationwide at 9.19am.
DI Ridley added: ‘If you see this man, I re-enforce my previous warnings, do not approach or challenge him, but dial 999 immediately and officers will provide an emergency response to the call.’
