Britain’s biggest ever lottery winners are set to “divorce amicably” eight years after scooping a £161m jackpot.

Colin Weir, 71, and Christine Weir, 62, have confirmed in a statement that they have been living apart “for some time”.

The pair from Largs, Ayrshire, have been married for more than 30 years and have two grown-up children.

Colin, a former TV cameraman, and Christine, a former psychiatric nurse, made The Sunday Times Rich List when they won the EuroMillions in 2011.

The pair set up The Weir Charitable Trust in 2013 and made a donation to a community football club in their local town.

They also invested in the Scottish Championship side Partick Thistle FC.

Their cash led to the youth set-up being rebranded the Thistle Weir Youth Academy and a section of their Firhill Stadium being named the Colin Weir Stand.

They also defended making a donation of £1m to the independence campaign ahead of the 2014 referendum, and continued donating to the Scottish National Party (SNP) afterwards.

A statement issued to The Scottish Sun said: “It is with deep regret that Chris and Colin confirm they have been living apart for some time and intend to divorce amicably.

“There will be no further comment.”

Patrick and Frances Connolly from County Armagh in Northern Ireland won a £115m EuroMillions jackpot on 4 January.

Hereford factory worker Ade Goodchild won a £71m EuroMillions jackpot in March and celebrated with a takeaway pizza.

He said: “I’m not one of these winners who is going to say this win won’t change me.

“It bloody well will, or at least I’ll give it a damn good go! There’ll be no more shift work for me.”
