UK weather: Charts show high probability of snow in UK

While the snowfall is likely to turn northern Scotland white, there are chances that some parts of England may also witness some snow showers. Weather maps for the start of February show a much icier picture where the mercury could plunge as low as -7C.

Maps from WXCharts show the cold weather sweeping in from the north west, leaving much of the country with sub zero temperatures around February 6 and 7.

Snow is also on the cards as it is expected to dust in the north west of England but in the Highlands of Scotland could get up to 75cm (about 30 inches).

However, the weather experts have predicted milder days ahead as we near the end of January.

Jim Andrews, Meteorologist, AccuWeather.com told Express.co.uk: “Three depressions, approximately timed for Wednesday, late Friday or Saturday, and later Sunday, are forecast to ride the swift steering winds of the jetstream, each of them skirting northern Scotland.

“As such, Scotland will bear the brunt of rainy outbreaks and strong winds along with each depression.

“Highland wintry showers will be possible with these, more likely at the weekend.”

The Met Office has predicted that the weather between Thursday and Sunday is likely to be “unsettled”.

The department in its prediction stated: “Unsettled and often windy across the north with gales around some coasts, also some rain mostly across hills of north and northwest Scotland.

“Mostly dry for the south and it may become mild.”

Saturday may have a high temperature, with mercury hovering around 14C.

Mr Andrews said: “What will be lacking through the weekend is any true cold outbreak.

“Indeed, taken as a whole, the UK will have above-normal average temperature Wednesday through Sunday.

“Warmest of these days, Saturday can have high temperature to 13-14C in England. Even some in northern Scotland will see 11-12C on Wednesday. Frosts will be patchy or absent on the whole, owing to wind, cloud and ocean influence.

“On the one or two coldest nights, -5C will be possible in the Highlands of Scotland.”
