Two people released after man shot by police in Coventry raid

West Midlands Police said one of the men was freed on bail and the other was released but remains under investigation.

Sean Fitzgerald, 31, was killed by a police bullet on Friday evening.

When the raid took place, residents in the area were told to stay indoors and some people reported seeing officers entering the house on Burnaby Road and hearing gunshots.

Friends have described Mr Fitzgerald as a “very, very good guy” and said he posed “no threat or danger”.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct has opened an inquiry into the shooting of Mr Fitzgerald.

A spokeswoman said the IOPC is looking at bodycam footage and CCTV recordings.

Explaining the men’s release, West Midlands Police said: “Police have bailed a 26-year-old man arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the production of cannabis and released another man, also 26, under investigation as inquiries continue.”
