Two injured after huge Boots sign collapses in London – emergency crews race to scene

A Boots chemist sign fell off and injured two people, both believed to be Boots employees. The astonishing incident happened outside the Boots store on Old Church Road, in Chingford Mount, just over the Essex border, shortly after 6pm, police confirmed. One wrote on Twitter: “Shockingly just seen the #Boots. Chemist workers closing up at #Chingford mount and the whole shop length sign fall down onto them.

“Thoughts with those injured. This next door to fire damaged and left derelict ex Poundland shop.”

Another witness took to social media to express her horror.

They wrote: “OMG. The Boots sign in Chingford just fell down on two people. Look at the size of the sign.”

Emergency services rushed to the scene to attend the injured and secure the area, with police cordoning off the surroundings of the store.

The two casualties were assisted by paramedics and then taken to hospital.

Their conditions are still not known.

One shocking picture shows the massive sign laying on the floor, right next to a Poundland which burnt down a few months ago, and firefighters surrounding it.

In another an ambulance, paramedics and two police cars can be spotted.

The London Fire Brigade confirmed their crew attended the scene and left at approximately 7pm.

The Metropolitan Police remains to attend the area, a spokesman said.

He added: “Police were called at 6.10pm, on Thursday, 11 April to Old Church Road, junction with New Road E4, after a sign fell off of a shop front.

“Officers attended. Two people were injured and have been taken to hospital.

“Road closures are in place. Officers remain on scene.”
