Two charged after three teenagers crushed to death at St Patrick's Day disco

Two individuals and a company are to be prosecuted over the deaths of three teenagers in a crush outside a Northern Ireland hotel.

Lauren Bullock, Connor Currie and Morgan Barnard died in County Tyrone three years ago outside a disco.

They were among hundreds lining up outside the Greenvale Hotel for a St Patrick’s Day event.

Two men, aged 55 and 43, are each to be charged with three counts of gross negligence manslaughter – one charge for each of the deaths – and a health and safety legislation breach.

The company which runs the Greenvale Hotel, known as Tobin Limited, will face one charge of contravening the same law.

It comes after a long-running review of all the evidence gathered since the tragedy unfolded.

Northern Ireland’s prosecution service has not disclosed the names of the two men charged.

Greenvale Hotel owner Michael McEllhatton responded to the development, saying: ‘I am conscious that this is a highly sensitive time for the families and I feel that it would be inappropriate to comment at this time.’

Police reported 11 individuals as potential suspects but nine escaped charges, including two managers and seven members of door staff.

Senior public prosecutor Graham Cardwell said: ‘The loved ones of Morgan Barnard, Lauren Bullock and Connor Currie have suffered a painful loss.

‘I acknowledge that today may be one of mixed emotions for these families as they continue to live with the aftermath of such deeply distressing events.’
