TV journalist, girl and woman killed in string of Florida shootings identified

A TV journalist, girl and woman who were killed in a string of shootings in Florida have been identified.

The three people ‘senselessly murdered’ by a teenage gunman are Spectrum News 13 reporter Dylan Lyons, 24, T’yonna Major, 9, and Nathacha Augustin, 38, said the Orange County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday morning.

They died after 22-year-old suspected gunman Keith Melvin Moses opened fire in the Orlando area on Wednesday and wounded two others.

Lyons, who would have turned 25 in March, was identified by his older sister and fiancée.

‘He was an acting father to his niece and nephew who he loved so much. He loved his fiancé and and was a devoted son to his mother and father,’ wrote his sister Rachel Lyons on a GoFundMe page. ‘He was a happy soul and wonderful person in life. My brother was our baby. He was taken too early from us.’

His fiancée Casey Lynn tweeted: ‘The love of my life was murdered. I will never be the same person ever again.’

Spectrum Sports 360 reporter Josh Miller said in an obituary published by the media outlet that Dylan ‘loved the community, telling the stories of people, reporting on the news, and he was just passionate about what he did’.

The GoFundMe page had raised more than $35,000 as of Thursday afternoon.

T’yonna was in the third grade at Pine Hills Elementary School. She had an ‘infectious smile’, the principal wrote.

Her mother was shot and left in critical condition.

Augustin was found shot dead on Wednesday morning on Hialeah Street in the Pine Hills neighborhood. Investigators initially reported she was in her 20s.

Moses approached Augustin and a witness as they drove around and smoked marijuana, according to an affidavit obtained by WESH. Moses asked for a ride and about 30 seconds later, a loud bang sounded and Augustin was shot, said the witness.

Augustin ‘did not have any problems with anyone’, the witness said.

Moses reportedly returned to the scene and is accused of shooting at a news crew who went to cover the crime. Dylan’s colleague, photojournalist Jesse Walden, was critically injured. Moses then allegedly killed T’yonna and wounded her mother.

His criminal record dated back to January 2018. Moses was arrested on Wednesday and charged with murder in connection with Augustin’s death. He was expected to face additional charges for the four other people shot.
