Trump’s body language reveals he has ‘intimate’ relationship with Tory leadership hopeful

Expert Judi James said the two appeared “friendly” and even “intimate” at times.

She said: “Trump might have endorsed Boris for the next PM but Hunt used some subtle-looking choreography to send out some visual messages.”

In an interview with Sky News following the encounter, Mr Hunt said: “We’re going to put on a fantastic show for him this week, because America is our closest ally and we want to celebrate an amazing partnership.”

The body language expert explained further: “As the pair performed their greeting ritual with hands held at upper waist high the proximity looked relatively intimate.

“Trump’s four power-pats of Hunt’s bicep did look friendly but also faintly lowering in terms of status.

“But then Hunt instigated a second shake that was as physically close and therefore flattering in terms of presidential attention as the first.”

Trump has previously praised current Tory leadership front-runner Boris Johnson, claiming that he would make an “excellent” prime minister.

But when asked about Mr Hunt in an interview for The Sun last week, Trump said: “Yup. Like him.”

The president has also extended his support to Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage, saying: “I have a very good relationship with Nigel Farage, with many people over there (in the UK), and we’ll see what happens.”

Politicians who have not ranked so highly in President Trump’s eyes include Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, who has been embroiled in a public spat with the US leader.

President Trump has described Mr Khan as “a stone cold loser” after the London Mayor referred to the president as “one of the most egregious examples of a growing global threat.”

Reports have also suggested that the President labelled the Duchess of Sussex as “nasty,” over threats she made to move to Canada if Trump won the presidential election in 2016- though the president denies these claims.

President Trump and the First Lady will be visiting London for three days in his first official state visit to the UK.
