Trump ally says London Bridge attack 'wouldn't have happened' if Brits had guns

A campaigner for Donald Trump suggested today’s London Bridge terror attack ‘probably wouldn’t have happened’ if Londoners could carry firearms.

David Wohl made the comments less than two hours after police shot a knifeman dead after he injured several people and killed at least two.

The lawyer took plenty of flak on social media after with people quick to point out how much more common gun deaths are in the US.

Shortly after 3.30pm the regular Fox News guest tweeted: ‘If law-abiding Londoners could carry firearms legally, it probably wouldn’t have happened.

‘Amazing how bold the terrorists are when they know their victims will be unarmed.’

But people weren’t convinced and said they were glad that the public don’t have to deal with a ‘gun free for all in the UK’.

They told him how rare incidents like this are in the UK and praised the professionalism of the police officers who responded.

Others said the ‘takeway from today’ should be ‘thank goodness that guy couldn’t get his hands on a gun’.

Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan tweeted: ‘How can anyone be this dumb?’

But Whol, who served as Trump’s campaign surrogate in 2016 doubled down on his comments.

Responding to Morgan, he said: ‘Right Piers. Having the ability to actually defend yourself from a terrorist attack is a terrible and stupid thing.

‘How can you actually be so dumb?’

In another post he added: ‘In reality you can’t even defend yourself with a KNIFE in the UK, as they are outlawed as well as firearms.

Oh, but the terrorists have knives to kill innocents, because they don’t care about the laws. Funny how that works.’

James Edmonston pointed out how many Americans say it is ‘too soon to politicise with talk of gun control’ five days after a school shooting.

He added: ‘But a couple of hours is enough time to mock countries where guns aren’t available alongside cereal.’
