Truck driver 'mowed down jogger then drove off with her body and raped her'
A suspected killer mowed down a jogger with his pickup truck before raping her and burying her body in a remote spot off a quiet stretch of highway, according to court documents.
Quake Lewellyn, 28, is then said to have brazenly joined the search party out looking for 25-year-old nurse Sydney Sutherland in the days following her disappearance in Arkansas on August 19.
He faces charges of capital murder, rape, kidnapping and abuse of a corpse, the Arkansas Democrat Gazette reports. The most serious of those charges carries the death penalty.
Ms Sutherland was reported missing after she failed to return to the home she shared with partner Alex Nicholson.
Search parties were assembled to try and find her, but authorities in Jackson County discovered her body buried in an empty field close to a rural highway in the city of Newport two days later.
According to an affidavit filed by Arkansas State Police, Lewellyn spotted Ms Sutherland as she was jogging along the quiet stretch of road, which was just a mile from her home.
Lewellyn is said to have admitted during his police interview to ramming her with his truck before loading her into the back and driving off to a secluded location.
There, he raped her then buried her body, police said.
Investigators claim they analysed Lewellyn’s phone and were able to pinpoint it as having been in the same location as the burial spot.
He is due to appear in court for arraignment on October 29.
