The Queen celebrated her 94th birthday this year, and every year the Queen’s birthday is marked publicly with Trooping the Colour. However due to the pandemic, the event will not be going ahead as scheduled for 2020. Instead a ceremony marking the Queen’s birthday will be taking place at Windsor Castle. Here’s how you can tune in live, online or on TV.

Every year thousands of people gather to watch Trooping the Colour in London.

Spectators crowd to watch the Queen’s personal troops, the Household Division, parade on Horse Guards Parade.

More than 1,400 officers take part in the parade along with about 200 horses and more than 400 musicians.

The route starts at Buckingham Palace, before carrying on the procession along The Mall, Horse Guards Parade, Whitehall and back again.

Members of the extended Royal Family are always in attendance for the event.

The Queen and her family gather on the Buckingham Palace balcony, to watch the Red Arrows fly past to mark the occasion.

Currently large gatherings have been banned under the UK lockdown restrictions.

As a result, Trooping the Colour will not be going ahead as scheduled outside Buckingham Palace.

There will however be a military ceremony in the grounds of Windsor Castle on Saturday, June 13.

The change of location is because the Queen is currently isolating at Windsor with her husband, Prince Philip.

This year the ceremony will take place in the castle’s Quadrangle, and will feature soldiers from the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards.

Music will be performed by a band of the Household Division and, like every year, the Queen will be greeted by a Royal Salute.

When is the Queen’s birthday parade?

The Queen’s birthday parade usually takes place on the second Saturday in June every year.

This year will be no exception, with the ceremony scheduled for Saturday, June 13.

TV coverage of the event will begin in the morning at 10.15am.

How to watch the Queen’s birthday parade

The BBC will be broadcasting The Queen’s Official Birthday from 10.15am on Saturday, until 11.20am.

BBC presenter Huw Edwards will be leading the event’s coverage.

You can watch the ceremony live on BBC One, but you can also catch it later online.
