The 34-year-old man is in a “critical condition” in hospital after being attacked on bus N25 in Mile End, east London, police said. Two other male victims – aged 34 and 22 – were also taken to hospital for treatment to slash injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police, who administered first aid on the bus, arrested a 34-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
Mile End Underground station and the A11 were closed for hours while the investigation continued, My London reports. They both reopened at around 8.30am this morning.
But the double-decker bus itself has been moved and remains out of use.
Photos taken at the scene show rubbish strewn on the road beside where the bus was at the time of the offence.

A shopkeeper, whose business is opposite the scene, said: “It happened around 12am. I didn’t see anything I was in the shop but the road closed soon after.”
The N25 bus within the police cordon was a Spirit of London bus built as a tribute to the victims of the 7/7 attacks.
The Spirit of London bus was originally built as the replacement for the number 30 bus destroyed in Tavistock Square during the July 7, 2005 London bombings where 13 passengers were killed.
The decoration on the bus reads “Spirit of London, remembering 7/7”.
