EasyJet flight lands in Gatwick after departing Turin

A number of passengers have vented their frustrations on social media about diversions to a number of airports including Birmingham, Bristol and Luton. According to passengers, the flights have been diverted to airports that are a significant distance away from Gatwick without any obvious way of getting home.

Twitter user @sunnyfranchetti said: “I am stuck on a plane on the tarmac at Birmingham airport with a 7 month old, which was supposed to land at Gatwick 3 hrs ago.

“Captain is telling me there is nothing he can do apart from put us on a 4 hr bus to Gatwick.

“@British_Airways- can you confirm this is serious?”

Less than half an hour later the passenger tweeted again unconvinced that British Airways would cover expenses for the journey home from Birmingham Airport.

They said: “He is now telling me to do whatever I need to do and claim it back on British Airways but cannot confirm it’s a guarantee.

“His operations person told him that it would be paid, who he only knows as “Tim” and doesn’t know his surname.

“He also is now ignoring us.”

Another passenger expressed frustration that their Wizzair flight which was meant to land at Gatwick at 10pm arrived at Birmingham at 2am.

Twitter user @oby_daniel said: “@wizzair surprise travel is great, but landing in Birmingham at 2am instead of Gatwick at 10pm is pushing it a bit.”

There were also reports that Gatwick bound flights were being sent to Bristol airport.

Meanwhile social media user @andyching said: “Diverted the plane to Bristol cos Gatwick Is a shutdown.

“SMH how my supposed to get home from here at 2am.”

Twitter user @theblackcabpoet fumed: “@WizzAirUK_W9 you are an absolute joke.

“Firstly you cancel our flight last Sunday to Palma so we lose a day or holiday.

“Now our flight to Gatwick is diverted to Birmingham.

“We have been told to wait for bus transfers but no member of staff is on site to direct us.”
