The Transport for London (TfL) has been slammed for introducing a new language guide that has restricted the staff from using certain words. Coronation street actor Charlie Lawson termed it as “nonsense” while speaking to GB News host Mark Dolan on Wednesday evening.

As per the new guide, employees are encouraged to use gender-neutral language “where possible”, including saying “staffed” rather than “manned”, “everyone” instead of “ladies and gentlemen”, and “they” over “he/she”.

Expressing his discontent over the changes, Mr Lawson said: “There is nothing logical nothing good about this at all. And I believe you can’t say homeless, you can’t mention deprived generations, and apparently, trans people experience pregnancy.

“Well, listen I would love to have a debate with a trans person who is experiencing pregnancy because I don’t understand that at all.

“I was talking to a friend in Canada, as I have done on previous occasions about this similar debate, and his words are simple: ‘Your country is not only going to the dogs in a handcart, it’s racing there on a horse race and its almost there’

“We are becoming a complete laughingstock. And why is nobody standing in the parliament and actually saying can we cut this crap right now.”

The staff has been told not to use the words “accident” or “manned” in a company guide.

The editorial style guide, published on the local Government body’s website, tells staff “do not use” the word accident, as this implies it is a matter of chance.

It tells them instead to say “collision”.

Mr Lawson continued bashing the TfL and said: “I am not suggesting that we can make a law that makes all this nonsense because we cannot we have enough bloody laws.

“And listen I believe in freedom of speech and I will stand up and defend and fight physically for your right to say what you want. But don’t be forcing this crap on us, it s nonsense.

“It’s so devisive. You know I have got many many friends from all walks of life, who will never even thought about birthing parents or banning mum and dad, it’s just nonsense.”

Other examples from the guide include a warning not to use the term “homosexual” or “transsexual” and a note that the words gay, bisexual and transgender should not be used as nouns, only as adjectives.

For example, the guide states that employees should refer to “a bisexual man” rather than “bisexual” and “gay people” rather than “gays”.

Additionally, in a more bizarre turn, staff are urged to “avoid referring to conflicts by name if possible”, for example, to use “late 1940s” instead of “post World War II”.
