A brave train driver armed himself with a broom to remove an unwanted commuter from a station in Brisbane, Australia.

The 2.3 metre python had taken to the tracks and stopped trains from departing.

An employee was filmed moving the snake with a broom on Monday, so the Brisbane train could depart from Roma Street Station, 7News reports.

The long reptile can be seen wrapping itself around the broom while concerned rail staff watch on.

Snake experts were called after the python was spotted, but officials were told they would have to wait two hours until their arrival.

But the train driver took matters into his own hands by removing the snake from the tracks so he could continue his journey.

Queensland Rail said in a statement: ‘We’re thankful our driver was able to protect both the snake and our customers by placing it safely out of the rail corridor.

‘We’re also happy to report the 2.3 metre carpet python has been rehomed to a lush new habitat in the bush.’

Closer to home, in Scotland, a dead python was recently found between some rocks on a beach.

Dog walker James O’Donnell found the snake while he was on a beach near Dundee.

His dog, Barney, became ‘excited’ about something in the sand – which turned out to be the snake.

It is unclear how it came to be on the beach, and whether it had died beforehand, and Scottish SPCA investigators have been unable to find out more.

Missing Pets Dundee and Angus, a Facebook group which helps reunite owners with lost pets, suggested it washed up on shore from elsewhere.
