Independence supporters and protesters gathered outside of the Perth Concert Hall in Perth, Scotland and booed the Tory membership arriving there. Some were reportedly seen throwing eggs towards members waiting to get inside.
Around 350 protesters waving pro-independence flags and anti-Tory banners gathered outside of the concert hall.
An eyewitness told the Scottish Daily Express: “The atmosphere and protestors are very lively and constantly shouting Tory scum.
“Eggs are being thrown at people entering the venue and at several journalists. There is a significant police presence (which is no surprise given how the hustings have been received).”
In video footage outside of the event, police could be seen stepping in between protesters and those attempting to enter the venue.
Signs at the protest read “Tory Scum Out”, “Liz Truss is a f***y” and “independence now”.
Also spotted at the event was the logo of the ultra-nationalist group Siol nan Gaidheal. Its members were banned from the SNP in 1982 following claims by late SNP leader Gordon Wilson that they were “proto fascist”.
Anti-austerity campaigner Sean Clerkin was among the group of protesters.
He told the Daily Record: “I’m here to call for support for the many Scots who face a winter without being being able to afford heating.
“The Scottish and UK Governments need to do everything they can to support the most vulnerable from the cost of living crisis.
“Both Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak have ducked the subject so far – it’s time they spoke out.”
