Tory leadership: LBC’s Iain Dale reveals key reason Jeremy Hunt will not win race for No10
Following his experience of the two candidates, Mr Dale has revealed the one key area where Mr Hunt doesn’t match up with Boris Johnson. Writing for the London Evening Standard, Mr Dale insisted Mr Johnson has the rare ability to be able to charm a crowd but also “give detailed answers to difficult questions”. Moreover, Mr Johnson was praised by the LBC presenter for being a better “orator” than the current Foreign Secretary.
Moreover, Mr Dale also revealed a key flaw over Mr Hunt’s campaign to become Prime Minister.
Mr Dale wrote: “The trouble is, many in the audiences don’t feel they can trust him on Brexit.
“He tries to reassure them but clearly recognises he’s up against it.”
Mr Dale’s column comes as the two leadership contenders clashed in a live debate on Tuesday night.
Following a debate on Brexit and UK-US relations in light of Sir Kim Darroch’s leaked memo, the pair clashed in what was a heated debate on ITV.
Mr Hunt accused his rival of not being willing to “put his neck on the line” by saying he would quit as PM if he did not hit the 31 October deadline.
In retaliation, Mr Johnson accused his rival of not being committed to taking the UK out of the EU.
Mr Johnson added: “If we are going to have a 31 October deadline, we must stick to it.”
“The EU will understand we are ready and will give us the deal we need.
“I don’t want to hold out to the EU the prospect that they might encourage my resignation by refusing to agree a deal.”
Both men have admitted that they would be prepared to leave the EU without a deal.
In terms of suspending Parliament to force through a no deal exit, Mr Johnson insisted that he would “not take anything off the table”.
