In a video posted from his personal Twitter account on Tuesday night, the International Development Secretary attacked the other four candidates over their current Brexit status. Moreover, Mr Stewart boldly claimed that he was “almost the only Brexteer” left in the race while insisting that he is the one man to deliver Brexit. The Tory MP has seen a slight upturn in his fortunes as he received 37 votes in the second round of voting on Tuesday, which has now left five candidates remaining.

In his video, Mr Stewart said: “I’m almost the only Brexiteer left in the race.

“In other words, I’m the only one who wants to get this done.”

While presenting himself as the only true Brexit candidate, Mr Stewart also criticised his rivals for their claims that they will be able to negotiate a new deal with the EU.

The MP also attacked the other contenders over a no deal Brexit, which as he claimed, would not be possible to get through Parliament.

Concluding his statement, Mr Stewart said: “We need to start from where we’re from in reality and get Brexit done.

“I want to get Brexit done.”

Despite the International Development Secretary surviving the second round of voting, Boris Johnson still remains the overwhelming leader in the race to become the next Prime Minister.

In comparison, while Mr Stewart gained 37 votes, Mr Johnson gathered a total of 126.

Although Mr Stewart attempted to present a solid Brexit argument, the Tory leadership hopeful was attacked by a caller on Tuesday night over his lack of plan over tax relief for the working class.

In response, the leadership contender said: “If I can deliver a good, safe, pragmatic Brexit – and that’s a big if – I would be spending the money not on tax cuts but on investing in our public services.”

However, not satisfied with the answer, the caller from Oxford attacked the International Development Secretary.

He said: “And Rory, you’re completely out of touch.

“You just did not answer my question.

“It’s nothing to do with Brexit, it’s about tax cuts.”
