Tory Brexiteer called 'liar and traitor' by angry Leave voter on live TV
Conservative Brexiteer David Davies was called a liar and a traitor by a Brexit-supporting member of the public during an interview in front of Parliament.
The MP for Monmouth was speaking about a rise in abuse against MPs when he was confronted by the woman.
She shouts: ‘You are a liar. You did not vote to leave. Shame on you. You’re a traitor.’
The woman laid into him after he told her he is pro-Brexit but voted for Theresa May’s deal.
She added: ‘You should feel uncomfortable. You’ve betrayed 17.4 million people.’
Mr Davies has started wearing a body camera to and from Parliament in response to increased intimidation.
He said: ‘And that’s what you put up with when you’re out here all the time.’
Responding to the woman, he said: ‘I tell you what people like you make me want to join the EU again to be honest with you.
‘What have you actually done for your country? I spent 10 years in uniform for my country.’
Welsh Assembly member Alun Davies re-tweeted the video clip and praised Mr Davies for how he handled the incident.
He added: ‘But we also need a conversation about how we can disagree with each other, have a serious debate and rebuild our politics. In Wales and the UK.’
It’s not the first time MPs have been berated about Brexit during an interview in front of Parliament.
Anti-Brexit MP Anna Soubry was called a ‘Nazi’ by chanting pro-Brexit supporters during an interview with BBC News in January.
At the time she said: ‘I just think this is astonishing, this is what has happened to our country. But let’s try and move on and be positive about things.’
