Tommy Robinson: Punches thrown as milkshake thrown over far-right figure
Video footage has captured the moment Tommy Robinson had a milkshake thrown over him as he campaigned for the European elections.
The far-right figure – who is standing as an independent to become an MEP for the North West – had the drink thrown over his head and shoulders during a walkabout in Warrington, Cheshire.
In the video, Mr Robinson can be seen talking to an Asian man, identified by the Asian Image website as Danyal Mahmud from Blackburn.
He begins arguing with Mr Mahmud, before the McDonald’s milkshake is thrown over him.
A scuffle breaks out and Mr Robinson then appears to throw several punches at the man before the two are dragged apart.
People can be heard cheering and shouting abuse at the prospective MEP, one saying: “That’s what you get for being a fascist”, while another calls him a “Nazi p****”.
The former English Defence League leader, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, was left with milkshake over his head and blue suit.
In a statement, Cheshire Police said: “We are aware of an allegation of assault made following an incident in Bridge Street in Warrington this afternoon. We are looking into the circumstances.”
Mr Mahmud, 23, told Asian Image he was on his way home when Mr Robinson approached him.
He said: “I was in Warrington for a meeting and afterwards was on my way home. I had to pass this group of people. He just kept talking to me. I kept moving location. I was the only Asian guy there.
“I said to him I do not wish to speak to you on or off camera. I just got annoyed with him. A milkshake slipped out of my hand.
“I had no intention of doing anything or reacting in any way. But he kept talking. I feel a bit shaken up and shocked to be honest.”
Mr Mahmud said a police officer stepped in during the scuffle and he was “taken off back to the train station”.
A spokeswoman for Cheshire Police said Mr Robinson was given advice at the scene, but denied claims on social media that he was given a police escort.
It comes after a separate video showed the 36-year-old being attacked with a milkshake in Bury, Greater Manchester, on Wednesday.
In a third video posted on Tuesday, the MEP candidate is confronted by a woman in Salford who accusing him of “just spouting a load of s****” to get publicity.
Ahead of Mr Robinson’s visit, Warrington South MP Faisal Rashid said people trying to stir up disunity with messages of “hate and division” were not welcome in the town.
