Mahek Bukhari, 22, who has thousands of followers on TikTok and Instagram, and her mother Ansreen, 45, appeared in court yesterday. Natasha Akhtar, 21, was also charged but missed most of the 10-minute hearing due to staff shortages affecting Leicester Magistrates’ Court. Two men – Raees Jamal, 21, and Rekan Karwan, 28, both of Leicester – were yesterday also charged with the murders and will appear before magistrates today.
All five are accused of murdering Mohammed Hashim Ijazuddin and Saqib Hussain.
They were killed when their car – a silver Skoda Fabia – smashed through a central reservation on the A46 at Six Hills, near Melton Mowbray, Leics, in the early hours of Friday.
The crash happened as they were allegedly being chased, the court heard. The Skoda was ripped apart by the impact. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Shortly before the crash, one of the men rang 999 to alert police.
The emergency operator heard a loud scream before the call was disconnected, the court was told. Police inquiries revealed that two other vehicles, a grey Audi TT and a blue Seat Leon, had “been travelling in the area at the same time of the collision”.
Ansreen and Mahek Bukhari, both of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs, and Akhtar, of Birmingham, were arrested and later charged with murder.
The three women were remanded in custody and will appear at Leicester Crown Court today.
Influencer Mahek has more than 120,000 followers on TikTok and 43,000 on Instagram. Many of her posts show her modelling outfits in adverts. She also films make-up tutorials and other videos, some featuring her mother.
Leicestershire Police said in a statement that the murder charges followed “a fatal collision on the A46 in the early hours of Friday morning”.
The statement added: “Police were called to a road traffic collision at around 1.30am, just before the Six Hills junction.”
A 20-year-old man who was arrested on Friday was released and faces no further action.
Officers are still appealing for motorists with any dashcam footage to get in touch.
