Three men sought after police attacked in Mad Friday pub brawl
Three men are being sought by police after two officers were attacked as they tried to break up a pub fight on Mad Friday.
A male police officer was punched in the head and knocked unconscious while his female colleague was dragged to the floor and stamped on in Greater Manchester.
The officers were responding to another call when they saw a large group of men fighting in Long Street, Middleton, at 2.35am on Saturday.
Greater Manchester Police said some of the men involved in the fight had been thrown out of Infinity nightclub on Long Street a few minutes before.
The force has released CCTV of three men it wishes to speak to in connection with the attack, as it urged witnesses to come forward.
Detective Inspector Karl Ward said: “We have been continuing our inquiries throughout the day and we are now releasing CCTV images of three men we wish to speak to in connection with this shocking incident.
“If you think that you might recognise the men pictured in the images then I would encourage you to please contact us as a matter of urgency.
“We are also keen to speak with anyone who has any additional information that they believe can assist us with our investigation.”
GMP said both officers were taken to hospital but they have since been discharged and are recovering at home.
No arrests have been made.
The attack happened during the night of Mad Friday – or Black Eye Friday – when pubs and bars become rammed with people celebrating the last day of work for many before Christmas.
Thousands of people, many dressed in festive attire, were photographed enjoying themselves in cities including Newcastle, Cardiff, Swansea, Aberdeen, Manchester and Sheffield.
Mad Friday is considered to be one of the booziest nights of the year, with plenty of people throwing caution to the wind knowing they have days to recover.
But officials have urged people to avoid trouble and the risk of spending the most wonderful time of the year behind bars.
